STEM Exploration Day

The Red Tails Classic STEM Exploration Day is an interactive educational experience designed to introduce K-12 students and their families to the wide range of academic programs, careers, and opportunities available through STEM education.
Participants will engage with faculty, students, and industry partners while exploring fields that are helping solve some of the world’s most complex challenges. The event celebrates the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen while inspiring the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, entrepreneurs, and leaders.

Both competitions are individual competitions featuring 3 rounds of fast, fun, age-appropriate challenges. Students earn points in each round, and their scores carry forward toward the championship.
🔬 Middle School Individual Science Bowl
ROUND 1 — Ready for Takeoff!
10 multiple-choice science trivia questions
Questions cover Life Science, Physical Science, Earth & Space Science, and general STEM
1 point for each correct answer
No penalty for incorrect answers
ROUND 2 — Climb Higher!
10 slightly more challenging science questions
A mix of multiple-choice and short-answer questions
2 points for each correct answer
No penalty for incorrect answers
ROUND 3 — Final Flight!
The top-scoring students advance to the championship round
5 rapid-fire science questions
3 points for each correct answer
Highest total score after Round 3 wins!

🏆 General Competition Rules
Individual Competition: Students compete independently—no teams or outside assistance.
Stay on the Clock: Each round will have a set time limit announced before play begins.
No Phones or Smart Devices: Phones, smartwatches, tablets, AI tools, and internet assistance are not permitted during competition.
Ties Take Flight: Any tie for a winning position will be decided by sudden-death questions. First student to correctly answer the tie-breaking question wins.
Judges Have the Final Call: All answers, scores, advancement decisions, and tie-breakers are determined by the competition judges.

ORATORICAL CONTEST RULES
Eligibility: The contest is open to students currently entering Grades K–3 and Grades 4–5. Students must prepare a speech based on the topic assigned to their grade division.
Original Work: Speeches should reflect the student’s own ideas, creativity, and voice. Parents and teachers may assist with preparation, but the presentation should be the student’s work.
Time Limit:Grades K–3: up to 2 minutes. Grades 4–5: up to 3 minutes. Students should be prepared to present their speech independently.
Judging: Participants will be evaluated on content, creativity, connection to the topic, delivery, and overall presentation. Most importantly—have fun, be confident, and let your ideas shine!
Registration & Participation: Students must register by August 25, 2026 at and report to the contest area at Montgomery’s Riverwalk Park by 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 29. The competition begins promptly at 11:00 AM.
